Why do we use the sacred word during Centering Prayer?
We use it when we engage our thoughts.
We forget we are practicing Centering Prayer.
We follow our thoughts and see where they will take us.
When this happens, we interiorly introduce our sacred word to bring us back to the present.
Then we ever so gently let go of it.
We open to the wonderful presence and actions of God within.
The sacred word is like a gentle windshield wiper.
It gently moves our thoughts and emotions out of the way.
It removes the clutter and obstacles that stand in the way of our rest in the rest of God.
When we remove the clutter and obstacles we connect with God who is deep in our center.
We let God pray in us.
Let me know if I can help.
